Resurrectional Apolytikion—Tone Plagal of the Fourth
You descended from on high, O
compassionate One, and condescended
to be buried for three days, so that
from the passions You might set us
free. Our life and resurrection, O Lord,
glory be to You.
Apolytikion of the Dormition--Tone 1
In birth, you preserved your virginity;
in death, you did not abandon the world, O Theotokos.
As mother of life, you departed to the source of life,
delivering our souls from death by your intercessions.
Kontakion
O guide to wisdom, provider of
prudence, disciplinarian of fools, and
defender of the poor, fortify and discipline
my heart, O Master; You, give me a word
O Word of the Father. For behold, I will
not hinder my lips from crying to You: O
mercifu l Lord, have mercy on me who have
fallen.
HYMNS TO THE MOTHER OF GOD
Axion Estin (Αξιον Εστιν)
Truly you are worthy to be praised, Theotokos (i.e, God-bearer; Mother of God),
the ever-blessed and all-blameless one, and the Mother of our God.
You are honored more than the Cherubim,
and you have more glory, when compared,
to the Seraphim; you, who without corruption, gave birth
to God the Logos, and are truly Theotokos, you do we magnify.
Upon the deliverance of Constantinople, the following hymn was composed in her honor -- "O Champion General" (Τη Υπερμαχω)
O Champion General, I your City now inscribe to you
triumphant anthems as the tokens of my gratitude,
being rescued from the terrors, O Theotokos.
Inasmuch as you have power unassailable, from
all kinds of perils free me so that unto you
I may cry aloud: Rejoice, O unwedded Bride.*

Kontakion to the Theotokos
O protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame,
you are the most constant mediation to the Creator.
O despise not the suppliant voices of those who have sinned;
but be quick, O good one, to come to our aid, who in faith cry to you:
Hasten to intercession, and speed to make supplication,
you who always protects, O Theotokos, them that honour you.
